Susan Clark is beginning a new chapter in her life as she drives to Auburn, Missouri, to begin her first teaching job. She’s young, vibrant and has an engaging personality that the children will fondly remember long after they are out of school. She’s thankful that Dr. Mark Sarkisian hired her for the job, and soon she’ll be praying that he can save her life. If her chronic disease doesn’t kill her, then her captors will…

I’ve reviewed quite a few books, but this one is different from most. First, it is fiction and many of the books I review aren’t. Second, it’s a mystery and, though I read a fair number of mysteries, I rarely write about them. Third (and this explains both 1 and 2), I know the author and that sometimes creates a challenge for honest reviewers. Not this time, though. This book was a fun read. The characters have personality and the story line is unique enough to hold attention. Both the main character and victim are school teachers and that’s an added draw. Many readers are school teachers and all others have enough experience with school to identify with Dr. Mark Sarkisian and rookie teacher Susan Clark. The story also features secret mountain men, town bullies, and virtuous police men and women. There is something for everyone!
This mystery is set in our corner of Northwest Missouri and features a number of places I recognize. Some are historical – Lake Contrary’s amusement park and the Bucket Shop – but others are quite current. The St. Joseph Missouri Highway Patrol Regional Headquarters and the town of Maryville play a role here. Though those offer extra interest for local readers, they don’t detract from the story; in fact, these local flavors add to the story.
I’ve known Nshan “Nick” Erganian for years, but I never knew he was a writer. We see each other at the local YMCA a few times each week. He surprised me a few weeks back when he mentioned his new book. I downloaded the Kindle version and grabbed a few chapters whenever I could. I finished Keeper of the Mountain on a bumpy airplane ride last weekend, and I can recommend the book to all. You’ll enjoy the story and you’ll get a taste of our ‘hood.

Keeper of the Mountain edition by Nshan Erganian Julie L Casey Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This book kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what was going to happen next. The characters came alive and you feel everything they are experiencing. I recommend this book to all of you.
I liked this book every much. The interest level is high and the characters are intense. There are many heart warming aspects connected to the story. Anyone who enjoys a good mystery, will enjoy this book.
This was a very good read..Especially since I know most of the places in this book...Nshan Erganian is a local and knows. I really enjoyed his first novel and hope his second one is not to far off...Job well done.
I enjoyed Keeper of the Mountain. Loved the characters and setting. It's well written and well edited and reads very smoothly. Hope Mr. Erganian writes another book.
From the beginning I became part of the town, a neighbor looking into the lives of the town. Enough of a plot to keep me reading long after I should have stopped. The only bad thing I could say is there were no recipes for the snacks Marnie made. Mark was a great character, steady and strong and bred to do the right thing, no matter his outcome.
This was an interesting book, sometimes heart thumping suspense, other times a bit predictable. The American Indians' love of the land lends itself to the title, although the primary plot involves low-life thieves who kidnap and kill to protect their unsavory group. Well drawn characters and some good surprises.
I enjoyed this book; found it hard to put down. The only thing that bugged me were the two times the author mentioned the dog, Quarter, was "sweating." As in her heavy coat was lathered in sweat. Dogs can't sweat like that. They "sweat" through their tongues and the pads of their feet. If Quarter had been a horse, yeah, her coat could be lathered with sweat. Being a dog, if she were hot enough that her coat would have been lathered with sweat if she were a horse, she actually would have collapsed from heat stroke and likely died. Other than that, it is a great book, with a lot of twists and turns to keep the reader on the edge of their seat. I would recommend it to a friend.
